Iyengar began his teaching career at Jackson State University as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science (1974-1977). Later, he became an Associate Professor and served at Jackson State University for three more years. The same pattern was followed at Louisiana University, where he started as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor within three years.
Internation Recognition
S.S. Iyengar has been named a 1994 IEEE Fellow Award Recipient for his contributions to Robotics and Image Processing. IEEE recognized the research contributions of Professor Iyengar's efforts over 20 years in algorithms, data structures, and computational aspects of robotics.
Brooks-Iyengar algorithm
Co-invented the Brooks-Iyengar algorithm with Dr. Brooks, for noise-tolerant distributed control which bridges the gap between sensor fusion and Byzantine fault tolerance, providing an optimal solution to the fault-event disambiguation problem in sensor networks,
Made an impact in industrial application/research
Co-inventor of a novel, paradigm-shifting method for grid coverage of surveillance and target location in distributed sensor network. Iyengar’s work has had a significant impact in industrial applications/ research, and continuing scientific research. New applications from industrial research are ongoing, each resulting in millions of dollars of market growth.
Professorship from Home & Abroad
From Aug 2006 - Jul 2007, Visiting Chaired Professorship, Dept. of Computer and Communication Engg., Asia University, Taichung, Taiwan. And appointed as a visiting Homi Bhabha Distinguished Professor at Indira Gandhi Center of Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, India.
Founding IMEF along with Mrs. Manorama Iyengar
IMEF foundation was inaugurated on 25th and 26th December 2009 at Soladevanahal in PVV Farms, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The foundation inauguration took in the presence of former Karnataka Police Commission Shankar Bidari and Dr. Kaarthkian, Former Karnataka CBI Director.
Added another milestone to the list
Co-invented the Cognitive Information Processing Shell, a complex event processing architecture and engine which recognizes and responds to complex patterns in mission-critical, real-time applications. Dr. Iyengar’s Team at LSU extended this framework with novel deep-learning frameworks and beam search. It became the basis of the DeepDrug pipeline for drug discovery.
